I have read many gangland books inc all of the authors previous but got to say this for me was probably the grittiest, hard hitting and genuinely brutal one yet All Reeva's children work for “the firm” - it is impossible, under Aiden's rule, for any of them to work honestly. The one exception is the youngest, Agnes. She is a good girl, beautiful and bright. She is devoted to her Catholic faith, and attends Mass twice daily. When Aiden finally marries and has a son, she devotes herself to looking after him, and seems not to want a life of her own. you can say that this is a good book–if mafia stories written on wattpad by 11-year-olds are your standard. Ultimately you believe the story is about that fierce loyalty of family but sometimes pride and jealously can be the strongest emotion.

Even if you like easy-reading novels. Even if you enjoy "summer reads." Even if you are a die-hard Cole fan. Do not read this book. Or forever bathe in your own wasted time of badly written words and a weak storyline. This is probably the worst book I have ever read. The writing was completely awful, there was no character development, and the only suspense and mystery in the whole book was completely predictable by the end of the first 10 chapters (which is not kind of bad, considering it's 156 chapters long and it's marketed as a suspense/thriller novel). I was only thrilled when it was over. And yet as the author is so so good at doing it shows friendship and how it can get people through any situation and it shows sacrifice and love I love a good Martina Cole book and thought that this was a good one. All the characters, whether you loved or hated them were superbly drawn and I found myself drawn into their lives and waiting to see how all the chips would fall.Another great read. After the initial first few chapters, every thing falls into place and you can't put it down. Another romp through the East End of London / Essex world of gangster families and the urban crime realities they live in. This tale centres round a completely ‘straight’ law abiding, naïve and inexperienced, but infatuated and brow-beaten at home by a domineering mother, teenager marrying one of the most deadly criminals of his generation. The actual story and characters are mediocre in my opinion. I didn't connect with any of them. I had no sympathy for them and seeing Michael escape at the end, starting a new life with his new girlfriend and baby didn't gall me in a way that I think might have been intended.

Martina Cole pulls no punches, writes as she sees it, refuses to patronise or condescend to either her characters or fans" Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know! Only read if you're way into violence and be ready to see assault, assassination, family murder and blah blah.. Character formation is way way idiotic and so the story formation. There he meets Jade an older woman, a woman who knows the business and helps him become the new face out there. For Aiden... its love at first sight.Character development. Rather than showing how and why her characters change, she just suddenly has them as different people. Now, I realize that she jumps forward in time four times in the book. That does not excuse her from not explaining why Breda suddenly loves her brother more than she loves her own son, especially when she said an irritating number of times previously that her son was the most important person to her and that he "meant the world" to her. She also had this infuriating habit of spending a chapter or two on a character and making that character seem important and then completely dropping said character from the plot never to return with nary an explanation to placate the reader. She lost her most interesting characters this way. Aiden O'Hara has always looked out for his family, ever since he was a wee laddie. His mother has something of a reputation and many children to different fathers. Aiden is fiercely protective and soon makes himself a name with the local face. Drugs, prostitution and murder are all things Aiden finds himself caught up in but it pays the bills and keeps his family safe. However as Aiden's reputation grows his arrogance and unpredictability grows with it turning Aiden from protector to a possible danger to his family and business. At Holly Brookes Children's Home, the two girls unite in the face of horrific abuse and form an unbreakable bond of loyalty. The characters of the six children are very well drawn, and they are all very different. The dominant one is Aiden, the eldest, a highly intelligent teenager who adores his mother. Within the local community he is recognised as someone special, and his headmaster is very anxious that he should be put forward for a scholarship to a good senior school. But Aiden himself and the rest of his family are not interested. Aiden's only purpose in life is to make money, lots of it, to support the family. This book is probably the worst book I've ever read. Literally. I read "The Graft" when I was a teenager and I thought it was alright, so when I did a book swap with this book, I thought it would be an easy read, but okay.
