Hostage is 1 of 4 similarly themed novels (that I’m aware of) touching ground this summer, and the 3rd (and last) one I read. As a child, Amanda Lindhout escaped a violent household by paging through issues of National Geographic and imagining herself visiting its exotic locales. At the… It was interesting to read this so soon after Falling - another plane based drama. Mina is a flight attendant and has organised to have herself rostered on World Airways flight 79, the first non-stop London to Sydney flight, all 20 hours of it. Adam is her policeman husband and they have a 5 year old daughter, Sophia. Mina and Adam are having a few problems, hence her desire to be away from home just before Christmas. A good book you can enjoy reading at any time but it takes an exceptional book to lose yourself in when there’s a pandemic going on. Hostage is an exceptional book to invest time and emotions in. Set on a non stop flight from London to Sydney involving Mina a member of the cabin crew who gets involved in an impossible situation of saving her child or a plane full of people we are treated to a non stop thriller

Somewhere in South America, at the home of the country's vice president, a lavish birthday party is being held in honour of the powerful businessman Mr. Hosokawa. Roxane Coss, opera's most revered soprano, has mesmerised the international guests with her singing.

And the killers will murder one innocent child an hour, on the hour, until their demands are met... A claustrophobic thriller set over twenty hours on one airplane flight, with the heart-stopping tension of The Last Flight and the wrenching emotional intensity of Room, Hostage takes us on board the inaugural nonstop flight from London to Sydney.

Hostage is one of those books thats intreguing. How can a book be basked on just one flight? I suddenly feel grateful for all the boring flights i ve been on.! The premise for this book is probably cliché in this day and age (and the movie based on this couldn't touch the emotion of the book)but when I first read this, I couldn't put it down. When Talley is the focus, you can't help but feel for him, he didn't want this situation and it's made worse when his family become involved. On the other hand, the thugs in the house are realistic, threatening and evil, something many authors fail to do. Released before hoodies were a thing of subculture, this book really lives up to the title thriller and you never know what will happen next. Mina has managed to swap shifts so that she can be on the non stop flight to Sydney. She is married to Adam but they are having problems. They also have a daughter Sophia who has issues. What an absolutely amazing book. I honestly could not put it down and while I was desperate for it to end, I didn’t want it to end!!! Five star read - highly recommended. While I was curious, I wasn’t at the edge of my seat like I had hoped. The book felt too long and drawn out. I found myself skimming the whole way. Mina finds a letter that puts her in a difficult position. Should she comply? Or risk losing her daughter. Meanwhile at home, Adam has his own struggles. He has gotten in over his head with the wrong people and receives a painful and frightening visit. He is told he needs to pay or else. But that is not all, he soon learns that his unpaid debts are the least of his worries. His is facing another threat as well. When we were working out how to do this we copied very heavily from Cialdini’s book. We looked at ways people gain influence with another and it is all about relationship building, earning trust and demonstrating a genuine interest in their issues and concerns. We learned that negotiators needed to come across as being non-threatening and non-judgmental.
