I don’t know why I waited so long to read the Finlay Donovan Is Killing It series of books! Because once I started… I couldn’t stop. I devoured all books currently in the series in a span of about one week. This was such a different look at the mystery novel. What did you like about it that was different and how did Finlay’s adjacent involvement in murder make you feel about her character? I loved Vero and Finlay they had a good banter that kept the crime plotline light when it would otherwise be too dark for me to enjoy. There’s very little nuance in my early drafts. All those poignant thematic bits are usually buried, and it takes me several passes to mine them out. Even then, I still need at least two passes late in the game to smooth out the rough edges at the line level. this was a goofy and unique idea but i thought the concept was more fun and funny than the execution at most times.I have to say, when I first heard what Finlay Donovan Is Killing It was all about, I had my doubts. It didn’t sound like it would be my kind of thing. I thought it was going to be too shallow and ridiculous to make for a truly enjoyable read. It all just felt like one of those dreams where you suddenly find yourself in the middle of something. You’re not exactly sure how you ended up there. You have no idea how to get yourself out. So you may as well just roll with it.
