About this deal

This book explores themes such as power, fear and war in a way that would never be too overwhelming or complicated to a younger reader but it has the right level of depth and intrigue for older readers alike. At the moment we are writing speeches from the Paw family members about why they should stay in the Contessa’s house and why they should leave. Most people in my class think that they should leave, the other ones think that they should stay because the Contessa might not have died. Said, S. F. (21 March 2023). "Further Reading | The Foyles Blog - Tyger Essay". Foyles . Retrieved 21 March 2023.

I still don't have any plans to write a second Phoenix, though people do often ask me if there's ever going to be a sequel. The story that I wanted to write ends where that book ends. But I would be totally honoured if you wanted to write another story about my characters and worlds! We understand you are very busy, however we would like to ask you some questions about Phoenix (if you have the time to respond). Hello Sally Bones I am your mother and we could team up and kill Varjak Paw and his friends!” Sor said, but slowly a big hand snatched up Sor and Sally Bones. We wrote a chapter when Varjak met another 'monster' on the streets of the city at night for example, a rubbish lorry (Aran), a fox (Bernardo), a motorbike (Daniel), a fire engine (Sophia).

Please write a second book,it doesnt have to have one if my ideas in it but I really want to read a second one. I have been recommending this book to all my friends and they all say they loved it It took me seven years to write this book, but really, it's been growing inside me for my whole life. I remember seeing the very first Star Wars film when it was released in 1977. It was a life-changing moment. As I looked up in awe at that first starship filling the screen, I remember thinking that I wanted to write a story as big as that one day. I wanted to write a book that contained an entire galaxy. O’Connell, Alex (24 September 2022). "Tyger by SF Said review — a magical tiger goes on the run in dystopian London". The New York Times . Retrieved 21 March 2023. I am in Year 3 at St. Andrew’s Primary School in Streatham, so hope it is not too far for you to travel, if you can come. Lots of children at St. Andrew’s would love to meet you and you can stay for lunch. I really hope you can come, my Headteacher Mrs Assid would like to meet you and so would my friends.. Thank you for writing such a brilliant book. Look at the night sky on a clear night. Can you see any star constellations? Is the sky clear enough? Are any planets visible? Can you find out what they are? Here is a link which might be useful and this one too . See the links below to find out more about stars and galaxies. Write a poemPhoenix is an epic story about a human boy who has the power of a star, and an alien girl who is the most brilliant warrior in the galaxy. Together, they have to find a way to save the galaxy from the war that's destroying it: the war between humans and aliens. Our favourite characters were Varjak (4 votes), Sally Bones (3 votes) but the clear winner was Cludge (23 votes) (Cassius). But as well as the science of stars, I'm interested in their mythic dimension. They pose the biggest questions imaginable, making us consider our place in the universe, and what it means to be alive in it. We now know that the atoms in our bodies were created in the hearts of exploding stars: something that feels closer to ancient myth than astrophysics. That's one reason why Phoenix contains as much ancient mythology as cutting-edge science, and why I think it's as much 'mythic fiction' as 'science fiction'. Thank you so much for your wonderful message about Phoenix, and for reading it with your class! That book took me 7 years to write, but all the hard work feels worthwhile when I hear a response like that. If you could talk to the King Theobroma or President Thorntree about their war and the attitudes of their peoples to each other what would you say?

An exciting and involved space adventure which engages with big themes . . . Atmospheric illustrations are a bonus. Peters Books I love the fact that you want to read more - thank you! I don't have any plans to write a sequel to Phoenix myself, but I would be totally honoured if YOU were to write your own sequels! Some of the first stories I ever wrote were inspired by other people's stories. If you'd like to do that, here's something you might find interesting - a blog I made about the writing process, with lots of tips, and an early draft of the opening of Phoenix: Not only does it break new territory – epic space adventures are, after all, not in abundance on the children’s shelf – but it is layered with depth and meaning right from the get go. A touching, meaningful story for children and adults alike" – Interzone It is so very definitely something; a text that dances with shadow and light and illustrations that pull and tease the words until something strange and alchemical happens to them. And if you & Mili still want more - here's a list I made of my top 10 children's books of all time, a few years ago. I'd probably make a different list today, as it's impossible to fit everything into 10, but I'd recommend all of these very highly anyway! You may not like it at all, of course! It's probably dated quite badly - it was written in 1960. But it started a wave of really interesting books with a mythical/magical/otherworldly element - not just his own, but also books by writers like Susan Cooper (The Dark Is Rising sequence) and Ursula Le Guin (The Earthsea books) - who I think you might also enjoy... they were certainly big influences on me! As for drafts - every writer is different. Some need more than others. But all of us do more than one. All you can do is keep working on it until it's the very best you can possibly make it; until it's exactly what you would most want to read yourself. And I think it will be worth it, because you have some brilliant ideas.

An extraordinary tale of science-fiction, adventure, love and war . . . Phoenix is a remarkable novel, uniting Said’s incredible storytelling with wonderful illustrations that bring to life an entire universe of creativity and imagination. Full of suspense, intrigue, action, emotion and more, this is a fantastic read which must surely be set for great things. Booktrust As they entered the Free Cats’ territory Miss Moggs crying her eyes out. She said, “Sor has kidnapped all the Free Cats! I could not bear to come. Author SF Said was born in Lebanon, but has lived in London since he was two years old. He wrote his first novel Varjak Paw while working as a speechwriter for the Crown Prince of Jordan, and then as a film journalist. His latest novel, Tyger, was named Foyles Children's Book of the Year 2022. Happy World Book Day 2023! This year, I made a World Book Day video of me reading aloud from Tyger, and it's been amazing to see people watching it in classrooms, libraries and homes around the world. And I absolutely love seeing all the different ways people celebrate their favourite books, so here are some of the incredible pictures I've seen this year - including the very first ever World Book Day TYGER costumes! Huge and heartfelt thanks to everyone!

There was a little girl called Sophie, now she was saying you’re naughty two cats!
