If you have a warmer room or are using this during a hot time of year, be sure to pay attention to baby’s temperature and the temperature of baby’s room. The recommended room temperature for a baby is between 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 to 22 degrees Celsius. So if you’re struggling and just want to try the suit early, I encourage you to wait until your baby is ready to really see the “magic”; otherwise, you may be disappointed. What Size Does the Magic Sleep Suit Come In? There is no guidance from the AAP about a safe amount of weight to place on top of a sleeping infant. Lovey: He actually never really took to the lovey, but we had it in his crib at all times, just for continuity We were desperate to get started using the sleep suit in hopes that we’d all get better sleep, but it simply did not work it’s magic before my babies were 3 months old.

Appropriate Wake Windows and Bedtime: If your baby hasn’t been sleeping well, there’s a good chance they’ll have some sleep deprivation, which can make it even harder to get them to sleep. Do your best to put baby down for naps regularly and set a reasonable bed time. My first thought when I saw my son in one was that he looked like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. The sleepsuit is super puffy and made with two layers of microfleeceor jersey cotton that are stuffed with polyfill. Read: Newborn Sleep Schedule: What You Can Do for Some Sleep How is the Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit ® Supposed to Fit? Due to the structure of the sleep suit, it’s usually much more difficult for a baby to roll while in merlin’s sleepsuit.

What’s The Final Verdict?

The fit of the suit hugs your baby’s arms, legs, and torso to give the feeling of being held and snuggled. LAYER LAYER LAYER! Underneath his baby sleep suit, we adjusted his layering underneath depending on just how cold it was going to be. Anywhere from nothing but his diapy underneath (in the warmer months) to 1 onesie, 1 flannel sleeper and 1 long sleeve shirt on under his magic suit. Does the format of the garment have any bearing on its safety? (For example, is a swaddle with wings actually any safer than a sleepsuit?)

When it comes to the sleep department this baby gear is a must have on my list and I recommend it to all my expecting friends. I recommend transitioning to a wearable blanket after the sleepsuit and the Nested Bean one was our top choice. If you’re working on transitioning out of the swaddle or trying to find a better way to help your baby rest, this can be a game changer. Is Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit Safe to Use? Parenting forums are filled with complaints of babies waking up covered in sweat. However, there have not been any official reports filed with the CPSC relating to this product. Alas, there isn’t enough data to confidently say whether the Merlin presents a greater risk of overheating than any of its counterparts.

First Impressions of Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit

The material is also created slightly stiff (while still cozy), which helps your baby’s arms not flail while going to sleep. This is important because it can reduce the moro reflex (aka the startle) that can cause your baby to wake himself up at night. Unfortunately, all of this only leads to more questions than answers. Here are two that come to mind: I have both, and do find that the fleece version is a little more cozy and fluffy as opposed to the cotton version. As with every baby product, prop, and gadget, the magical sleepsuit, certainly has its pros and cons. Pros: Baby sleep is a very sensitive subject, and for good reason—safety is paramount. If you’ve heard whispers that the Magic Sleepsuit isn’t safe, rest assured the brand says their product is perfectly safe, provided you follow all guidelines surrounding usage.

For our family, the Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit was well worth it our children transitioned from the swaddle. It helped them continue to sleep well and sleep longer, even on vacation. It also helps with maintaining a parents peace of mind as well as help with that sleep deprivation all new parents are struggling with. However, we weren’t about to use even a toddler sized sleeping bag out of fear of it covering his face or getting tangled in too many blankets. I don’t have scientific evidence to support this, but I might argue that people who struggle to transition out of the Baby Merlin might either be doing so too early or waiting too long (when the baby is then dependent on the comfort of the suit). In the early days of parenting, it can feel like getting quality sleep for both you and your little one is impossible. A baby’s first year is filled with so many milestones. For many parents, sleeping through the night regularly might be the one we all look forward to the most. Infants really need to be developmentally ready and big enough to move from the swaddle to the sleep suit and see success.

Many parents wonder if their baby will get too warm in the magic sleepsuit. As long as your baby is dressed appropriately, they should remain at a comfortable temperature.
