I loved every single thing about this book...literally everything.

If you haven't read anything by Sager yet and are wondering where to start, I highly recommend giving this one a shot. I think it is a perfect example of his style.Susan Cheever's 1984 biographical sketch of her father, Home Before Dark is a book I have read more than once, calling on it from time to time but particularly when I am in the midst of reading The Stories of John Cheever. In fact, as much as I enjoy reading Cheever's short stories, Home Before Dark seems to enhance my appreciation of John Cheever. The novel is told via a split narrative in alternating chapters. It focuses on the characters of Maggie Holt, via her first person narrative, and her father Ewan, through excerpts taken from a book. The book-within-a-book focuses on supernatural events that Ewan claims drove them to flee their home and never return. Reviewers were impressed by the use of parallel structure. It was my second most anticipated book of July. And here I am sitting and thinking how horribly can a author murder a book! One of them belongs to Megan Holt’s POV, inherited a so called haunted house from her father after his sudden death and advised her not to go there again. The script is tight as hell, and the story keeps you on your toes throughout. There are many twists and turns which I love.
