The music television channels (MTV launched in 1981) and the first generation of personal computers (1st Apple Computer launched in 1984) significantly influenced the looks of 80s fashion. The trend can be seen everywhere, even in movies, and one of the most popular characters spring the style was Alexis Carrington in Dynasty, played by Joan Collins. To achieve this look, you need to lay your base color, apply the accent shade – and the blue hues thereafter. Smudgy Eyes

What we nowadays call athleisure once started as leotards and bodysuits, a functional form of fashion. The 80s animal prints were usually focused on big Leopard prints. Often seen on blazers and leotards, it was a design that literally stopped traffic. This period of inter-war expansion was overseen by a new generation of the family. Harry Moss joined the business at the age of 13, learning the trade on the shop floor. In 1921, aged 25, he was made director and became fondly known as the ‘Guvnor’. Harry was particularly interested in growing the readymade section of the business, in line with the developments happening in the new factories in the East End and in Leeds. He drew on the skills of London’s Jewish migrants to achieve this. The firm hired two key figures: ‘Sol Rye’ Debensky, who cut the coats, and Sam Levy, who did the trousers. Levy had been born in Poland in 1890 but was established as a fixing tailor in Whitechapel by 1911. By 1921, he had his own workshop in Mile End and in 1925 Moss Bros began to employ him. It has been estimated that, by the time he died, Levy must have made almost half a million pairs of Moss Bros trousers.Notable shoulder pads matched vaporous dresses with puffed sleeves to create unique geometric shapes and cuts. The easiest way to know your face shape is to draw around your face and hairline using a printed self-portrait photograph or using your phone. The basic overall shape of your face should then become clear. Observe your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline. If they're all roughly the same width, then you likely have a round face. If your jawline is narrower than your cheekbones, then you probably have an oval face. And if your forehead is the widest part of your face, with your cheekbones and jaw tapering down from there, then you likely have a heart-shaped face. Once you've determined your face shape, you can start shopping for sunglasses that will flatter your features. This spicy amber fragrance, which was launched in 1985, was developed by Jean Guichard. Kate Moss – and a tiger – were some of the faces of the perfume. Of all the Jewish firms discussed in this book [ Fashion City ] only one has borne witness and contributed to the entire history of London’s twentieth century ascent as a global fashion capital – Moss Bros. Having dressed the upper echelons of British society for events such as Ascot, Glyndebourne and the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, when at least five cabinet ministers appeared in the firm’s hire robes, Moss Bros has been shaping British fashion for more than 160 years. Famous customers include the composer Edward Elgar, playwright Noël Coward, explorer Fridtjof Nansen and actor Rudolph Valentino, who hired a suit to wear for the London film premier of Blood and Sand in 1922. Moss Bros generously let Valentino off the extra charges that would usually be accrued for damage after he had to escape, over the roof of the cinema, from crowds of adoring fans. For those of us who do not move in such rarefied circles, Moss Bros has also been a staple of the British high street and a familiar presence in our lives and wardrobes.

Harem Pants Trend ‘Harem Pants’ became popular in the 80s thanks to MC Hammer, a look fast adopted by many eighties Hollywood stars such as Demi Moore and Donna Summer. While Jordache has ventured into the real estate business, this brand was the king of 80s jeans. Founded in 1969 by the Nakash brothers, its European-inspired jeans became the toast of 80s denim fashion. The 1980s was a time of fashion innovation and self-expression. It was almost a renaissance of fashion, with people daring to be different and pushing the limits of what was considered acceptable. Prior to the 1970s, fashion was quite conservative, but with the hippie movement and the sexual revolution came the opening up of fashion to become more provocative. The 80s took that to the next level with bold colors, more skin, and unique accessories. The fashion choices of the era reflected a cultural transformation where people were no longer afraid to be themselves, and that mentality shone through in their clothing choices. Many consider the 80s fashion for women to be the best of the 20th century, and it’s easy to see why with all the creative and daring looks that came out of the era. Preppy Dressing Style Revival 80s preppy look, known as ‘Yuppie Student,’ was the look of affluent college students, displayed in many 80s movies such as Heathers (1988) and promoted by 80s American fashion brands such as Ralph Lauren, Bert Pulitzer, and Tommy Hilfiger. Also, as a sign women were rising through the ranks, Britain was run by Margaret Thatcher, the country’s first-ever female Prime Minister. 2 /21

With eye-straining leotards, power suits, blends of Punk and Preppy clothes, dramatic earrings, and acid-washed denim, the 80s fashion created more style icons than any previous decade. In psychedelic colors and dizzying patterns, harem pants are another look that makes 80s fashion unforgettable and unique. Stirrup pants borrow the concept by having a material strap at the end of the foot to hold the pants in place. As always, the 80s represented the motto ‘the bigger, the better’. Such is seen in one of its most popular accessories: large, funky earrings.

5. Don’t get your shirts in a ruffle…or…do, in the name of 1980s fashion

Stirrup Pants and Leggings Trend Designed for comfort and simplicity, 80s stirrup pants and leggings were some of the most loved 80s styles, worn as either the gym or casual outfit pants. From leggings to handbags, skirts, and sunglasses, bold prints of leopard, zebra, tiger, giraffe, and python were the rage.
