d)The fewer gears in the rear cassette the better. The motor is so powerful you tend to forget to change gears and only use the higher half even on big hills I’ll also mentioned that Tongsheng’s firmware (ie the code that tells the motor how to behave) is a little weird. In particular, you get maximum assist at an oddly low cadence – about 60. It then tails off until at about 100 RPM you get very little help at all. This is not intuitive if you’ve mentally programmed yourself to spin up hills to stop your knees exploding; I sometimes need to change up to a harder gear if I want more help on a hill (this only works if you’re not already getting the max available power from the motor. If you are, then you need to change down to keep going. You’ll get the hang of it after a few weeks, honest). This Tongsheng/SFM mid drive motor with torque sensor is the cheapest and good torque sensor mid drive motor in china, you can feel the power from your foot to start the ebike,so you don't need use throttle to start the ebikeI spoke to some people from Bafang, and they actually feel that the delay is a safety feature. If power is instantly on from a slight pedal movement, the bike could jump when you don’t want it to, or someone simply bumps into the pedals when you are at a standstill. The TSDZ2 has torque sensing like on many European made bikes. What that means is the motor senses how much force or torque you put on the pedals and adjusts the power correspondingly. You may also need a drill, 6.5mm drill bit if you need to install a couple of M5 rivnuts on the downtube to secure the battery cradle. Zero Start Performance] — because the torque sensor can accurately detect the foot force, and give it several times in time. It can output accurate torque signal when it is at rest, with excellent zero start performance.

If you have a mobility reduction or impairment, you should opt for the TSDZ2T which is the TSDZ2 with throttle which helps climbing hills without extra work. If you just want an off-the-shelf, buy-it-and-ride-away, no-maintenance-needed ebike. Nothing wrong with that; it’s not as if you would be asked to fit the engine to your car after buying. As an aside I used self-soldering heat shrink to make the connections ( heat shrink with an internal collar of solder) they worked brilliantly. BATTERY COMPATIBILITY: A 52v BATTERY WITH 20A CONTINOUS DISCHARGE CURRENT IS REQUIRED TO POWER THIS MOTOR PROPERLY (we can supply this if needed, see our other listings) * note - this system DOES work with 14s, 58.8v MAX voltage The motors are waterproofed for normal UK use. In other words they are fine with rain, frost, snow and mud. However they are not designed to be submerged in water.

The TongSheng TSDZ2B is the newest model that comes with a two clutch design on the main gear. Main gear disengages from the chain during riding which makes it to ride your bicycle like a mechanical one. The older version (The TSDZ2) only had one clutch design. https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/105815170/170384279-da68944c-ad4f-4dba-8b72-06b61be60cb9.jpg Labor/Power-saving] — When climbing a hill, it is as labor-saving as starting. Flat riding is extremely energy efficient and power saving.Since the output is proportional to the output of the person, the coordination is good, and it can be said that the perfect combination of people and machines. The motor has an extra support mount – resulting in a much more reliable install than a Bafang BBS motor.Jeff is actually classified as a quadriplegic. The location of his spinal cord injury from an accident left him with 50% biceps and 35% triceps, and no use of his hands. He is a real trooper. With the TSDZ2 motor, he cycles over 100 miles a week. Sometimes 50 miles on a single ride. There are a lot of people like Jeff whose quality of life can be dramatically improved with a TSDZ2 on a hand-cycle, but it requires the open firmware project to make it work the way they need it…” Whereas the TSDZ2 uses a torque sensor, the Bafang uses a cadence sensor, giving the motor an on/off feel. The Bafang is much quieter, almost silent. But it’s heavier, more expensive and just as prone to technical faults. For more information, please read my Bafang vs. Tongheng comparison article. Pros and Cons Pros Also watch out for when you are threading pedals onto the crank arms. I made a schoolboy error here and didn't realise that both pedals and crank arms are labelled left and right and ballsed up the thread. The pedals should thread onto the crank arms smoothly with some grease. I should have realised sooner when I had to spanner them on that something was wrong. Had to buy new crank arms in the end. Generally, the TSDZ2 is reliable. But, problems can and do occur. Sometimes, these may manifest within the first few miles, and others may not happen until the motor has over a thousand miles under the belt. Environmental factors seem to play a part, and if you live in a wet country, it’s worth remembering that the Tongsheng isn’t waterproof.

If you are annoyed by a speed-sensing ebike with it’s “delayed power on, and delayed off”, the time interval can be adjusted, but…like most people, I am not concerned about it. My favorite ebike has a 1500W BBSHD. It takes a 1/4 turn of the pedals to start power (or I can start with the hand-throttle), and after I stop pedaling, it takes a second for power to stop. With that little confidence boost I opened up the java software to install Emmebrusa’s Open Source Firmware. Here the mysterious hexadecimal was forsook for a nice graphical interface to choose options and alter parameters. The whole thing was pre-populated but needed tailoring to suit the motor voltage, battery and tyre size at the very least. A word of caution; if you’ve got a warranty from the place you bought the motor from, flashing a new firmware onto it would obviously void that. Plus I believe it’s possible to tweak the firmware to make the motor non-EU-legal, which would leave you riding an uninsured, un-registered motorbike (not a good situation to be in should you ever find yourself in a collision, regardless of fault). Conclusion – would I buy it again? No. The 48V controller is the same. Some dealers reprogram the controller, we don't. They are programmed by Tongsheng. After canceling the one-way bearing, the new design is all in one nylon gear which can bear greater torque with
