As a teacher you might think if there are set marking expectations for the marking of pupils’ work? Is there a specific expectation for the type, depth or quality of marking from the Department of Education (DfE), Ofsted or even set by your school? In this version, both the grade scale and the recorded grades are based on a 4.0 grade point system. This type of system might be used by a class in which all grades are subjective and the grading on each assignment is by letter grade. I would have liked to make the template work so that you enter the actual letter grades, but that turned out to be too complex, so instead, the grades are recorded by converting the letter grade to the equivalent point value. Marking-related policies must therefore be developed on the basis of a clear understanding of the need to sustain manageable teacher workloads: Schools may wish to establish arrangements that allow for the quality of marking and its compliance with relevant policies to be monitored. In so far as this information is used to make judgements about the effectiveness of teachers, the NASUWT is clear that this is only acceptable if it has been agreed as evidence to be used for this purpose at the planning stage of the performance management cycle. However, the Union strongly recommends that teachers do not agree to the use of this evidence for this purpose.

Example 1: Relative Weighting - If you wanted an exam to be equivalent to 5 homework assignments, in the Gradebook worksheet you could set the weighting factors on the homework to 1 and the weighting factor for the exam to 5. Or, using the point system, the exam would be worth 5 times as many points as a homework assignment.Supports Foundation, Intermediate and Higher tier students in the same class and will limit grades accordingly. What if the exams have different weights, how do you know which one has the largest negative effect on the grade?
