About this deal

Marguerite MacIntyre previously portrayed Liz Forbes on The Vampire Diaries and wrote for The Originals in Season 1, Season 2 and Season 5. Why would that suddenly remind you of the fact that your parents had been to Oakhurst. And two Oakhurst schools? Where in the hell did that come from? Miss Corby, I have to say that these young persons have acted in the finest tradition of Oakhurst….And certainly there will be no demerits for any of you. Quite the contrary. Commendations all around, I should say. Yes indeed. Commendations. Splendid work. Excellent work…I’m sure I don’t need to tell you not to gossip about this. It would only upset your classmates. We wish them to think of Oakhurst as a place of safety. Of refuge. If you five have been forced to discover far too soon how fragile a refuge that is…I can only hope that strengthens your resolve to defend it on behalf of your friends. The day is coming, young warriors, when you will be called to a greater battlefield.” From what I've been reading recently, Oakhurst Academy has been compared to Harry Potter's Hogwarts due in large part to magic playing a central role in the series and the characters involved. It actually doesn't matter how you dress it up, OA is a 21st century school, with all the amenities for the students to take advantage of, while Hogwarts will always be the standard bearer for years to come. That being said, there are plenty of departures from that concept that make accusations of it being derivative pretty much pointless. I can think of a handful of books that share similar starting points. That doesn’t make them all Harry Potter clones.

I'm a storyteller; that's what I see as 'my job'. My stories come out of my characters; how those characters would react to the given situation. Maybe that's why I get letters from readers as young as thirteen and as old as sixty-odd. One of the reasons I write song lyrics is because I see songs as a kind of 'story pill' -- they reduce a story to the barest essentials or encapsulate a particular crucial moment in time. I frequently will write a lyric when I am attempting to get to the heart of a crucial scene; I find that when I have done so, the scene has become absolutely clear in my mind, and I can write exactly what I wanted to say. Another reason is because of the kind of novels I am writing: that is, fantasy, set in an other-world semi-medieval atmosphere. Music is very important to medieval peoples; bards are the chief newsbringers. When I write the 'folk music' of these peoples, I am enriching my whole world, whether I actually use the song in the text or not. While it's a hallowed tradition in YA fiction that the intrepid hero(es) appear to know more than the adults around them, in the end it typically turns out that the adults DID have a clue but didn't interfere for one reason or another. For the last decade, the iconic heroes and villains of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have captivated audiences worldwide. They left an enduring legacy of love and family in their wake, which continues in LEGACIES, a thrilling new drama that tells the story of the next generation of supernatural beings at The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted. It's here that Klaus Mikaelson's daughter, 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson; Alaric Saltzman's twins, Lizzie and Josie Saltzman; and other young adults — including high-energy vampire MG, newly-triggered werewolf Rafael Waithe and the mysterious Landon Kirby — come of age in the most unconventional way possible, nurtured to be their best selves... in spite of their worst impulses. Will these young witches, vampires and werewolves become the heroes they want to be — or the villains they were born to be? As they fight to protect their secret, their town of Mystic Falls and eventually the world, they will have to rely on ancient folklore and tales to learn how to battle their far-reaching enemies. LEGACIES stars Danielle Rose Russell, Jenny Boyd, Kaylee Bryant, Quincy Fouse and Aria Shahghasemi, with Matt Davis. LEGACIES is from Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios in association with My So-Called Company, with executive producers Julie Plec ( The Vampire Diaries), Brett Matthews ( The Vampire Diaries), Leslie Morgenstein ( The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars) and Gina Girolamo ( The Originals). I don't think I will read any of the follow-up books, because I honestly don't expect them to get any better. None of the characters in this book caught my attention. I didn't empathize with any of them because there wasn't enough substance to their characters for me to empathize with. There was a point at the beginning of the novel where Spirit talks about how she and Loch like the same things – TV, books, music – but they didn't tell the reader what kinds of things they liked. There is talk about music and iPods in the book without actually referencing any music. Maybe this was done on purpose with Spirit so that teen girls could put themselves in her shoes like what commonly happens in romance novels, but there wasn't really any romance for that to make sense. There was a little light flirtation, but that was all. Whoa, whoa. Hold up a minute. They go from suspecting the existence of a secret society all-out believing there’s one without a scrap of evidence. She looked at fellow students and wondered if they were out to kill her.

If you’re a fan of Legacies and are looking for similar shows and films to watch, there are a few options to consider. First, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals are obvious choices, as they share the same universe and mythology.Six seniors from the prestigious Excelsior school are tapped to join THE LEGACIES. The best, brightest and most talented. Future leaders, judges, politicians, award winning artists. Many of their hotshot parents belong. Bernie, her best friend Isobel, their boyfriends and scholarship student Tori are among the new members. THE LEGACIES have secrets. Their parents have bigger ones. This book and audiobook was a good story. There were suspense and mysteries. The story was told through a timeline, before the Legacy Ball and after the Legacy Ball with a few point of views. The story somewhat reminds me of Gossip Girl because of wealthy vs working class and working class infiltrating the wealthy by taking part in their school and club. The night of the Legacy Ball is supposed to be the best night of these seniors’ lives, a night of haute couture, endless champagne, and plenty of hushed gossip. Before the Legacy Ball, Bernie who's the one with the leader mom of the Legacy club. She felt destined to be with Skyler who's mom partnered with her dad in a law firm. Isobel is good in art and best friend with Bernie. She knew a secret Skyler kept from Bernie but she needed something from Skyler so she kept quiet. Tori from the working class has ambitions and when she saw a chance to infiltrate, she jumped at it even though she didn't play by the rules to get it. After the ball, there is a view of the police investigating a death. So it’s not surprising when Excelsior Prep seniors Bernie Kaplan, Isobel Rothcroft, and Skyler Hawkins are nominated as Legacies; their family pedigrees have assured their membership since birth—even if they're all keeping secrets that could destroy their reputations. But scholarship kid from Queens Tori Tasso? She’s a surprise nominee, someone no one saw coming. Tori’s never fit in this world of designer bags, penthouse apartments, and million-dollar donations. So what did she do to secure her place?
