About this deal

Matt Harrison is ready to drop some knowledge on you and have you riffing your own data manipulation solos like you're Slash in "November Rain", or Prince in "Purple Rain". There are books and blog posts, which can be a good way to learn Pandas if you have the time to look for high quality content that goes beyond the basics. Also, I spent a lot of time creating the index for this book (I feel this is one of the most important features in the physical book). If you're looking for that one resource that will help you build out your knowledge of pandas, and that you'll go back to again and again, this is it. x Cookbook, Machine Learning Pocket Reference, best selling Illustrated Guide to Python 3, and Learning the Pandas Library, as well as other books.

Matt Harrison doesn’t assume that anyone taking the course has a lot of Python programming experience. Learning Python for Data focuses on the Python language and fills in knowledge gaps for those who wish to learn Python and then move on to ML, AI, DL, etc. I see a lot of my students confused or coming up with bad solutions because they are adopting the (poor) advice easily found on the internet. There is a lot of bouncing around, which is necessary but the context switches slow down the process. I think it is a good thing in that an investment in learning pandas turns out to be a super-power when you need to move to Spark or Dask. What things should they keep in mind while designing and developing their data science/engineering workflow? I’ve been following your work for a while and have found your pandas philosophy transformative and super helpful in my own work. By using these functions, you can transform continuous variables into categorical ones and analyze your data in a more meaningful way. I’m curious in your experience teaching pandas do you take a different approach based on your specific audience’s background? This is useful when you want to group your data into a smaller number of bins and analyze the distribution of your data.

Reading the book you can feel that the author has poured in his two plus decades of experience and want to share the most with his audience so that they can implement each scenarios. I have reviews from beginners and experience alike that this is changing how they think about Pandas. The course has good productivity tips; for working in Jupyter notebooks, for working with Pandas documentation, and for data cleaning and wrangling. It is one of the most widely used libraries for data analysis and has been adopted by many organizations due to its simplicity and versatility. Hi William, I’m not aware of linters for pandas, however I am very opinionated regarding best ways to educate a team. No deep dive into understanding pandas internal designs or best practices (although there are some tips and tricks here and there but not much). Effective coverage of all pandas table-steaks topics: loading data, filtering, inspecting dataframes, typing, sorting, merging/joining, grouping, aggregating, shaping, melting, plotting, exporting, debugging (and even more).

What I mean is that most authors try to get their word out, teachers go further and try to make the ideas get in readers' brains. It discusses these topics and interviews over a dozen technical authors to get their take on this and other questions. Even if you are ultimately going to be working with terabytes of data, you’ll start out doing exploratory data analysis. In reference to Alexey’s comment below about dplyr, I have barely used it, but many of my teammates use it, and they have shown me the basics. It is a collection of tricks, wherein fluency only arises from many hours spent pulling one’s hair out. The book covers a wide range of topics, from basic data manipulation to more advanced topics like performance optimization and memory efficiency.

I like the way how Matt have described the each scenario, graphical/pictorial representation of each topic to give you a visual clarity on what is happening underneath. As I said earlier, if days were 50 hours long, perhaps I could include the whole kitchen sink in the book.Matt Harrison is the Pandas guru, which in my opinion is equivalent to being Canelo Alvarez of boxers or the Esther Perel of therapists; he’s mastered the fundamentals and knows more than most anyone about the Pandas package. Even with chatgpt majorly assisting with df manipulation these days, knowing these patterns and what’s available helps a lot. While all tools have their advantages and disadvantages, pandas are probably the most efficient out of all of them. This course is based on real-world experience of using Pandas in a variety of domains and teaching Pandas to thousands. Any time you have "structured" or tabular data (like a database or from a spreadsheet), consider using Pandas.
