About this deal

Google-worthy elements are added about the Rollright stones, Whispering Knights, the King Stone, and the Lone Warrior, the Italian opera Cavalleria Rusticana, and even unique ice cream flavors…chili peppers? Moving between humour and hazard, Devil's Delight kept me on my toes throughout as I devoured each chapter. When a women is describe as having a dress big enough to be a marquee tent if needed, I stopped reading. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Little, Brown Book Group/ Constable via NetGalley. After marrying Harry Scott Gibbons and having a son, Charles, Marion went to the United States where Harry had been offered the job of editor of the Oyster Bay Guardian.

The writing style of Marion has gone altogether and the fast paced action was replaced by pedantic descriptions.

In the meantime, Agatha’s hectic life swirls along at dizzying pace, her private detective agency as busy as ever and her private affairs in turmoil – old loves to contend with and a new suitor on the scene. The storyline was far fetched, and the murder was solved long before the end by the discussions of Agatha and her friends instead of the wonderful way Marion would lead us all on with our own theories until Agatha once again got caught and then the solution would tumble out.

I took a star off for the conclusion because the only thing that disappointed me was the ending, as I found it unrealistic. When they reach the spot, however, there is nothing on the large, flat rock except a small wet patch. Private detective Agatha Raisin - a fiftyish Englishwoman with small bear-like eyes and shiny brown hair - lives in Carsley, a pretty village in the Cotswolds.

He demonstrates his knowledge of her older books by constantly mentioning them, but it's really not necessary and he should get on with the story in the same style as Marion if he wants to keep the once loyal band of eager readers that Marion had. The thing that interested me most about the book is how much the main character of Agatha Raisin has changed since the new author took over writing these stories from the late, great Beaton. Jasper Crane is a member of the Naturist club, and Agatha would have liked him had it not been for his beard; Agatha loathes beards on men. If one keeps an open mind, that was the part I had the most fun with in the book; there were a lot of jokes made about it; those jokes had me giggling out loud. John agrees, and Agatha is almost positive that the body in the lake is Antonio's body and puts Ursula on the list of her suspects who murdered the disappearing body.

But Agatha and Toni grow suspicious after meeting some of the club’s members, whose diverse interests range from artisanal ice cream to ancient curses. Agatha and her assistant, Toni, are driving to their friend Bill Wong’s long-awaited wedding, thinking of nothing more than what the beautiful bride will be wearing when a terrified young man comes running down the country lane towards them wearing…nothing at all. Beaton (1936-2019) was the author of both the Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series, as well as numerous Regency romances. Maybe it is me, as I haven't read an Agatha Raisin book for a while, but Agatha has become vainer about her looks. And the headmistress of Martinbrook Sixth Form College discovers drug dealing at the school, and a youthful private detective poses as a student to track down the culprit.DEVIL'S DELIGHT delighted me with its nudists and witches'Gumshoe Review'A Beaton novel is like The Archers on speed' DAILY MAIL'The detective novels of M C Beaton have reached cult status' THE TIMES'A blend of Miss Marple's insight with the cunning of every murderer she ever revealed . Agatha and her assistant, Toni, are driving to their friend Bill Wong's wedding, thinking of nothing more than what the beautiful bride will be wearing when a terrified young man comes running down the country lane towards them wearing. When Toni and Agatha stop to see what this man could want, Edward Carstairs explains that he is the social convenor for the Mircester Naturist Society, a group of people who enjoy each other's company while naked. The two handmaidens that Agatha and Toni met and thought were a little too weird and instantly put them on their list of suspects were two sisters, Ursula Danieli and Ulrika Rayner.
