About this deal

I do not want to work on 1001 Combinations and Sacrifices by Fred Reinfeld as many of it solutions have mistakes. While in the tactics book the chapters can actually be misleading because often the combinations make use of several tactics so if you just look for the specific tactic in the chapter heading you could overlook things.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. I see nothing conclusive so I finally turn to the back and lo and behold he gives Bxf7 as the winning move with the line Rxf7, not even bothering with Nxf7. I go through these books about every 4 - 6 months, scoring myself as to solutions and, thereby, measuring my progress and focussing on my weaknesses. My three star rating loses one star from the full five for the above comments on situations in chess learning not being realistic, and also one star off for the fact my copy has begun to have the pages fall from the stitching in the spine without me really doing anything to warrant that!

If there is a mistake/problem with an item or description, please let me know and I will do my utmost in resolving it, and making you VERY HAPPY! I thought it woudl help immensely but I stlil make the painful small flat-out blunders here and there, in winning positions. This book should have been rewritten by a qualified chess trainer for youngsters removing a lot of ordinary stones from the diamonds -- and adding some instructive comments here and there.

Would be interested to hear how The Ultimate Chess Puzzle Book, and its sibling, The Giant Chess Puzzle Book (both with 1000 puzzles) compare to the Reifeld books if anyone knows. The positions and solutions are available on the web, but I find even this poorly produced book more convenient to use than a computer screen. Test Your Tactical Ability" by Neishtadt is somewhat more difficult than Reinfeld, and also excellent if you can find a copy. Start going through Reinfeld or a similar intermediate tactic book (as someone would normally do, with calculation, etc. Two books that I would recommend are "Chessercizes" by Bruce Pandolfini, and "Chess Tactics for Students" by John Bain. Thanks for the replies Jollepa, and hey man just keep practicing and your visualization will improve before you know it. I have spoken to many masters and experts of that generation that have happily used this book for problems. I've actually done most of the Reinfeld book but in terms of actually being able to resolve the problems quickly again, I can probably only get 75% of the ones I've done.
