Her books have been translated in over 75 languages, and All the Bright Places has won literary awards around the world, including the GoodReads Choice Award for Best Young Adult Fiction of 2015. What if you get to school and realize that things are different and kids are different, and no matter how much you try, you will never be able to catch up to them? What bothered me is just how cruel Libby's classmates were (even if I know this fact better than I'd like to admit, even all these years later), how unending that cruelty was, and how she really wasn't willing to tell anyone what was going on. So, having read the book, yes, there is a lot of 'fat-shaming' that's mentioned throughout the book.

It's a book that deserves to be read on its own merit, and although it didn't touch my heart as much as Niven's last book, it still proved Niven's tremendous talent. My eyes go to her backpack, to the letter sticking out of the pocket I just managed to shove it into.m., and the time of night when my mind starts running around all wild and out of control, like my cat, George, when he was a kitten. You’ll read teens who actually sound like teens and have their share of dickish moments and you’ll get to experience a relatable first crush rather than instalove and laugh out loud when Libby says things like: “I want to lean in and get a whiff of him and rest my head on his should or maybe make out with his neck” while slow dancing with a boy. Pero cuando el destino lo une a Libby comenzará a ver todo de manera diferente y aceptar lo inimaginable. Holding Up the Universe was an interesting and moving read with complex characters and a unique storyline.

Her new book Holding Up the Universe is suitable for younger teens as well - and just as powerfully written. Libby being still a teenager can teach you a few rules to apply in your life and Jack is the best example. Jack has for years suffered a terrible condition that forces him to be on alert all the time and to have for friends and girlfriend the people less indicated. and finally, i wish people would stop rating books before they come out and before they've read them.Since her mum's death she's been picking up the pieces in private, alone with her heartbroken father. i could go on and on about all the amazing techniques but one thing that slightly bothered me, was the lengh of the book. When the two get tangled up in a cruel high school game which lands them in group counselling, Libby and Jack are both angry, and then surprised.

I don't say this to denigrate Niven's new book in any way—I think with this book she set out to tell a different and more personal story, yet one with slightly more universal themes. A contemporary romantic novel so yes, it could be cheesy with several cheesy romantic declarations a girl wouldn’t normally hear from a guy [Now if you don’t like this stuff, then it’s probably not for you. If you see me in class today or in the hallways or in the cafeteria or ANYWHERE ELSE ON EARTH, do not talk to me. He's the guy who can re-engineer and rebuild anything, but he can't understand what's going on with the inner workings of his brain. Fan’s of Niven’s first book, All the Bright Places, will be thrilled to pick up Holding Up the Universe. From the author of the New York Times bestseller All the Bright Places comes a heart-wrenching story about what it means to see someone—and love someone—for who they truly are. There is absolutely no excuse, and I can't forgive Jack for what he did, but at the same time, I understand, and that is what I really struggle with.

From the author of the New York Times bestseller All the Bright Places comes a heart-wrenching story about what it means to see someone--and love someone--for who they truly are. I’m actually really proud of myself for finishing this even though I did skim read the last 25% of it. Dead parent for you, random illness for you, a bit of anxiety on the side as well as extreme obesity and we’ve got our perfect story! A gorgeous, life-affirming book that--like its lovable and resilient main character, Libby--will make you want to open your arms wide, lift your face to the sky, and twirl.I myself am overweight, and while I am nowhere near Libby's size I could easily relate to a lot of what she was going through, even though I am an adult.
