Overall I enjoyed this book, but I didn't enjoy the miscommunication at the end and I didn't agree with the decisions some of the characters made. What did his having a daughter my age have to do with the fact that I wasn’t wearing pants—or a bra—in front of him in our kitchen? charlie had such sarcastic dry humor and he was so funny 😭🫶🏼 i liked that she was like relatable in the things she liked, such as having a bookstagram, listening to Taylor swift, reading books, without it being over the top or overly quirky. AAAAND he was willing to give bailey his damn CAT that he loved so much just to prove that he'd want to see bailey forever. Only complaint in this regard is that it also included one of my least favourite tropes, which is the bet-trope, which I just find to be a little tired. i updated my earlier mantra and shouted from the rooftops: i would probably read any book that was categorized as YA and written by lynn painter. I also wish the fake dating and bets were a bigger part of the book bc that was how it was sold to me, but they didn't last very long.

His relationship with Bailey was incredibly sweet and I enjoyed them as friends that slowly transitioned into something more.

But that was unfortunately overshadowed a lot by some of the other things that I really struggled with, or found didn’t work as they should. Betting on You follows Charlie and Bailey, who meet on a flight, where they instantly get off on the wrong foot and there is mutual dislike between them. But the more we get into the book, with Bailey trying to sabotage the relationship, the more I realised that Scott shouldn’t have been the recipient of her frustration.

Being YA, it was actually kind of the perfect escapist read for me - save for also being a child of divorce, I had nothing in common with the characters, and this suited me just fine. she did fall for c-dog, and also tried to sabotage her mom's relationship with a wonderful guy; but i'm not a child of divorce, so i don't know how hard it could be to adjust to a new "dad".
