Before Breakout came out, the skyline of the Hero Factory homepage changed to match the time of day and Makuhero city weather. Two of the sets, Breez and Thornraxx, received a limited release in Europe, with a wider release as an addition to the summer line in the United States and elsewhere.

Later, Evo develops an enthusiasm for all types technology, embracing the Battle Machines used in Antropolis City. introduced an overhaul in the style of the series; Heroes were re-imagined as mini-figures, similar to (and compatible with) the standard minifigs as seen in most of LEGO's other lines, while the constraction aspect was found in mechs that held the minifigs as pilots; the villains retained the typical constraction design, though several minifigs of the villains were also included. Eventually, XPlode and Rotor strike an explosives plant, and when Stormer is felled, Furno manages to apprehend Rotor. Breakout was the second series to include an XL hero (Preston Stormer), as well as the first series to include all of the original nine heroes (not including the Drop Ship pilot).

With the mission manager captured and all of the other heroes out, Rocka was tasked to defeat Black Phantom before he could take over. Rocka, who has since received a modification giving him larger, more resilient armor and a stronger double-claw combo tool, approaches Witch. Working together, Alpha 1 manage to release all the creatures and Surge from control of the brains, and defeat the drones. For "Mission: Savage Planet", he was programmed with instinct algorithms based on those of a saber-toothed tiger.

The forms became the basis for subsequent upgrades; Heroes would be provided with new armor, weapons and gadgets for the mission at hand based on the environment they would have to enter or the lethalness of a villain. It is revealed that the villainous Black Phantom is behind the prison break, and that it was merely a distraction for the Heroes so he can attempt to destroy the Hero Factory's Assembly Tower while they recapture the escapees. Rocka's group arrive first at the central mine via the transportation unit, where Witch Doctor had been mining the Quaza.Once constructed, they are placed in special hero pods and beamed across the galaxy to defeat evil and complete their various missions. The brains go to different areas on the planet, infecting ice beasts, lava critters, desert crawlers, jungle ogres, rock monsters, sea creatures, and one brain infects an electrical dragon. In most cases, instructions for the models are found in the respective instruction booklets of the characters, with some exceptions.

The pieces in this series are not the regular Lego bricks; they include a lot of ball and joint connections which allow for plenty of movement and posability once the figures are built. questionable canonicity) The other six Hero sets and the other six Villan sets never got their combo models for some reason. As Christmas trees are a popular place for toys to be found, Ask Toy Tech offers a brief history and pictures of the Christmas ornament tradition. An unprecedented jailbreak occurs in the Hero Factory, releasing every known captive villain into the galaxy who begin spreading chaos and destruction everywhere. However, Black Phantom, who already has the mission managers neutralized, puts up Hero Factory's fail-safe shield, blocking all communications between the building and Heroes on missions and preventing anyone from leaving or entering. A Direct-to-DVD movie was released November 16 2010, titled 2856076 Hero Factory: Rise of the Rookies.

Descending down a warped path of villainy, he hires the most dangerous villains in the galaxy so that he can get his revenge on Stormer, blaming him for his own failures and insecurities as a hero.As Stormer, Furno, Evo, Nex, Surge, Breez, Bulk and Stringer are sent to catch and cuff the villains, Rocka remains at the Hero Factory for "security reasons". After a fight with Stormer and Furno he is defeated, and they trap him inside his own black hole staff, placing it inside prison storage to keep it under watch. This was moving towards a goal which the LEGO Group's community coordinators had expressed at fan conventions, which was for LEGO to have multiple action figure themes running concurrently.
