About this deal

They're like an unconventional pair of Disney Grandparents, and they really made me miss my own they're so gorgeous. Which is a real shame, because I was so excited to read this book - the premise sounded really amazing. Alongside this depth there’s a lightness of touch too as Ryan Love has his characters create memories through simple moments and pleasures, as well as through the larger events, making the narrative feel familiar and real. Während Arthur sich also dazu entschließt, endlich er selbst zu sein, fällt seinem Enkel Teddy das gar nicht so leicht.

When he isn’t writing, Ryan can be found tweeting, watching – and playing – Countdown or enjoying cuddles with his two golden retrievers. Arthur especially stole my heart, and I really related to the strong grandfather/grandchild bond between him and Teddy - it’s a relationship that just doesn’t get enough focus and which was probably the most important in my life so I’m grateful to see that reflected here. This unbiased review is from an uncorrected proof copy provided by NetGalley and Harlequin Australia.

REVIEW ⚠️cw: homophobia, bigotry ⚠️At the age of 79, Arthur Edwards shocks his family by telling them he's gay. Any images and covers will have a text description for the visually impaired enabled through their device's text-to-speech function and similarly, this complies with digital braille readers and similar devices. I loved the relationship between Arthur and Teddy and I loved the support that Madeline showed towards Arthur throughout the book. It's filled with cliché after cliché, it has a whole heap of shallow characters who never actually grow from the situations and the plot was a series of very middle-class dilemmas.

And, well, it is sweet but oh, it's really charming and despite myself I found myself giving into it.It jumps between Arthur, a 79 year old grandfather who has just come out to his family, and his grandson Teddy, who is also gay and struggling to find his place in the World. It was a brave decision to stray away from something so familiar, and in my opinion, it works really well. Please ensure that book(s) are sent back unread, in the original packaging and your dispatch note is included. Arthur’s 21-year-old grandson, Teddy, has a secret of his own: he’s also gay, and developing serious feelings for his colleague Ben. In conclusion, by writing this review I have talked myself down from giving this book 2 stars, and now I’m rating it just the one.

But there are so many issues from that start, that I simply couldn't get beyond the first few chapters. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Deshalb würde ich das Buch übrigens auch allen Menschen empfehlen, die sich nicht als queer identifizieren, aber sich vielleicht mehr damit beschäftigen möchten, wie das Leben als queere Person unter anderem aussehen kann.I just felt very meh throughout the book which is disappointing because I genuinely thought I would have liked this book from the synopsis. In their small town of Northbridge, there are mixed reactions, and Arthur isn’t at all sure about the dating site his daughter-in-law-to-be signs him up to: surely he’s too old for all this?
