Ray stretched out a hand for the piece of paper and scanned it while Kate stood awkwardly in the doorway. He never stops moving; full of energy from the second he wakes until the moment his head hits the pillow.

Vivid storytelling with persuasive characters and a schemingly intelligent narrative - and one prize-winning plot-twist - S.I made ten women, each with their own distinctive curves, their own bumps and scars and imperfections. Before I Let You Go also zones in on addiction and the various health professionals, lawyers, hospital staff and mental health professional involved in combating this illness. She is desperate to escape the past, but is haunted by the accident, by the loss of her son, and by her own fears. Secure in the environs of her own neighborhood she lets go of his hand to push away the strands of wet hair from her eyes, laughing at the cascade of droplets it causes. Most police officers had one—it’s why you had to turn a blind eye to some of the jokes bandied about the cafeteria—but perhaps Kate was different.

Sometimes when you read a book you just inherently know that it will remain by your side for a long time to come.

They parked the car a hundred metres away from a large white tent, erected in an attempt to protect from the rain whatever evidence might have been left. If I Let You Go by Charlotte Levin is a deeply moving and compelling portrayal of a woman coming to terms with loss. The reader is presented with various perspectives on the book’s central crime: a hit and run accident where a young boy is killed, and the driver never stops to help. At some point right before the book changes gears (and trust me, you’ll know when this is happening), I did find myself wondering what this story was marching along towards. I was on the point of giving up when a twist was revealed which turned the novel into a page Turner.

I want to fix an image of him in my head, but all I can see when I close my eyes is his body, still and lifeless in my arms. It can never been easy for police officers to talk to a parent who has suffered such a tragedy but this is the job of Ray and his colleagues. The wooden floor is stained from the lumps of clay that drop from my wheel, firmly placed in the center of the room, where I can move around it and stand back to view my work with a critical eye.

Hers is a perspective laden with emotion, a broken woman who walks out of her home, out of her life, to the comforts of the unknown, to forget the sounds and sights that haunt her every minute. a difficult job but an insight into the sensitivities of such a case and how something like this never leaves their minds. Ruth Jones, author of Love Untold Heartrending and surprising, with an very believable protagonist, this is a tale of loss, grief, abuse and fractured relationships. The pain of a mother, who in a split second let’s go of her son’s hand as he crosses the road, is one that will haunt her for the rest of her life, along with those impacted by this horrific accident. Rimmer works to highlight this in her novel, perhaps informed by her own family experiences of seeing her uncle suffer and succumb to serious drug addiction.
