But now that I am not a child, I feel that Jacky Wilson doesn't really go all out on this one, something that I think even she's aware of. Girls keeping their families going, girls trying to get away… Jacqueline Wilson’s written about them all! The party soon becomes miserable when, at the show, Beauty feels too shy to go onstage (the show is to celebrate people's birthdays), and Gerry shouts at her in the limousine after all the girls leave. He obviously felt a certain amount of love and affection for his daughter and wife, and wasn't only a villain.

However, Rhona desperately wants to be friends with Beauty, which she reveals one day when Skye is at a dentist appointment. All that, the first half of the book, culminates in a striking, 5-star chapter that takes place on Beauty’s birthday. Beauty tells her mother, Dilys ' Dilly' Cookson about the teasing and Dilly decides to learn how to bake cookies, even though she is an awful cook, in the hope that Beauty will get a new nickname, Cookie (a play on her surname, Cookson). I was really sorry for Beauty, and the way she had to lie about what was actually going on in her house.

Sharratt's trademark illustrations lend their own kind of comfort by giving a quick graphic preview of what's to come in each chapter. I remember really liking the last two chapters as a child and I gather I still do—it's a happy ending after all! Beauty's father's continually escalating temper, and the danger it places them in, is instantly undermined, and you see all to clearly how difficult an attempt to break away can be, especially if you're being made to feel at fault. This book got me into reading I absolutely LOVED it I always had it with me in fear of never reading a better book I've always felt that the ending needed a bit more closure that's why its not 5 stars.

But also being happy alongside her when she and her mother start a happier life together, away from Beauty's raging dad. I was nearly in tears when that sweet little rabbit died and believe me I do not cry over books often. I think that anyone who is struggling with a parents divorce or parents fighting all the time would find comfort in this book. Of course we want Beauty and Dilly to stand up for themselves and of course it's cathartic to see them finally succeed and even find happiness and support through sweet bunny-shaped baked goods after all the hell they're put through.i feel like rhona is two faced becuase if she liked beauty so much then why cant she been seen with hr in public. What a great story - I mean, I knew it all already - the horrible bullying schoolmates, not a happy home, but then escape and new friends and everything ends well.

She is frequently berated for breaking any of his fussy house rules, as well as for her lack of looks, confidence and friends, even though she lives in a large house and attends a private school. Overall, I'd recommend anyone who is or who used to be a Jacqueline Wilson fan to pick this book up and read it.Beauty's birthday is approaching and she is dreading it, however her father appears to turn a new leaf and act like an ideal dad.
