All that knowledge has come through, because this is a really excellent mattress. Our lead tester found it made their body feel light, comfortable, and supported from head to toe, and that it left them feeling refreshed in the morning. At 20cm tall, the Levitex mattress is on the thin side, but it feels feel is far more luxurious than it looks – the sleep surface is soothingly soft and plush. Unlike the Emma, it doesn't trap body heat, either. Once it’s inside, you’ll need to unbox and unwrap the mattress, then allow it to fully expand — this may take up to 24 hours. Your memory foam mattress may give off a “foamy” odor for the first few days after unboxing, but the smells eventually dissipate. If you’re sensitive to smells, adding airflow with windows and fans can usually help the smell dissipate faster. Some brands offer White Glove delivery for an extra fee, which includes full setup and removal of your old mattress. What Does a Memory Foam Mattress Feel Like? If you’re a fan of memory foam mattresses, you have plenty of options to choose from when shopping for a new bed. Based on our in-house testing, we found that the Nectar Premier stands apart from the competition for its balance of support and contouring, quality construction, and approachable price-point. The Layla Memory Foam Mattress has an innovative flippable design, quality construction, and competitive price-point compared to other foam beds we’ve tested. The two-sided construction offers a medium (4 out of 10) firmness on one side and a firm (7) feel on the other. We recommend the bed, especially the softer side, for people who need ample pressure relief for sensitive joints.

Hot sleepers on our testing team found the Premier much cooler than competing foam beds. We attributed this to the cooling cover and phase change material. Like other memory foam beds, the Premier excels at motion isolation. The foam layers absorb movement on each side of the bed and prevent it from transferring across the surface, which can curb nighttime disruptions for couples and co-sleepers. The mattress is completely silent, as well. Our testers often use beakers of blue liquid and move across a mattress to test for motion isolation. It's a fantastic mattress, it's also exceptionally comfy and as someone who is bedbound, I find that it isn't causing any additional joint/limb pain like I was suffering with my old mattress. Simba made its name with a range of quality hybrid mattresses including the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress, but then went on to add a pair of cheaper all-foam options, of which the Simbatex Foam mattress is the pricier and more advanced.

There's also minimal motion transfer, which is good news for couples, and while the Nectar isn't specifically a cooling mattress it nevertheless provides decent temperature regulation thanks to a cooling cover and gel memory foam. The only real disappointments were its strong off-gassing smell that took a few days to clear completely, and poor edge support that could be problematic if you're sharing a bed. When choosing a memory foam mattress, there are a few considerations to make. The most important factors include the following. Contouring and Pressure Relief Most online mattress brands offer free ground delivery, where the mattress is vacuum-sealed in a box and shipped directly to your doorstep. Foam beds tend to be the lightest, but in our experience it’s best to have at least one other person or moving equipment to help you move the box. Beyond the heat issue, there are other reasons why memory foam might not be the right choice for everyone. If you sleep on your stomach, many memory foam mattresses won't give you enough support, while if you're a combination sleeper who changes position a lot in the night, you may find that memory foam hug to be just a little too restrictive. And if you're of heavier weight, you could find that you sink too deeply into the foam and end up with too much pressure on your joints. All-foam beds are notorious for trapping heat, but the Nectar Premier Copper outperformed many competing models in our temperature control tests. Our temperature tests showed that it stays cooler than the average foam bed thanks to the phase change material and cooling gel infused into the comfort layer. The copper fibers are also intended to reduce heat retention on the surface.

During our testing period, we found the Hypnia stayed a neutral temperature, and we didn't have any issues with it trapping heat. In fact, the only area where it didn't score as highly was on edge support – this was acceptable around the edges, but the corners were slightly softer than we'd ideally like. A strong all-rounder, and an especially good choice for couples. The GravityLux by WinkBeds is a memory foam mattress that comes in three firmness levels: medium soft (4), medium (5), and firm (8). Our testers found that the bed optimizes comfort for many body types and sleep positions regardless of firmness level, which should suit couples with different preferences. In terms of performance and comfort, the Levitex mattress is a contender for the top spot in this guide, but we've settled on #2 for a couple of reasons. The Emma has more of a classic sink-in, slow moving memory foam feel – the Levitex does contour a little to the sleeper's shape, but is more responsive. (Incidentally Levitex is pretty emphatic that this isn't memory foam, but given that there's no concrete thing that defines a 'memory foam', and it's mostly down to how the brand wants to describe it, we think it's fair to include it here.) The second reason is that the trial and warranty are very short for a major bed brand. A 44-night trial is still over the three-week window it can take to adjust to a new sleep setup, but the 5 year warranty is really too short, given that you'd expect your mattress to last 7-10 years.

For the price, though, the Nectar Memory Foam Mattress is still a strong option – especially when you factor in the extras, which are the best of any model in this list. As well as a full year's trial (matched only by the Eve at #7) you've got a forever warranty, for complete peace of mind. In general a good quality memory foam mattress should last for about eight years and quite possibly longer than that in the case of premium mattresses. Most memory foam mattresses come with a 10-year guarantee, which is a strong indicator of just how long the manufacturers expect them to last. You can choose from five different profiles: 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 inches. Each profile corresponds to a different firmness option — medium soft (4), medium (5), medium firm (6), firm (7), and firm (8). While the firmness differs between each model, we found the memory foam surface on all models conformed closely and offered excellent pressure relief. This greatly benefited our testers who experience pressure buildup in the shoulders and hips. The adaptive surface also excelled at absorbing motion and noise, which is ideal if you’re easily awoken by a sleep partner’s movements at night.
