When it comes to the feel, the Edifier WH950NB are very light and comfortable. I would wear these for full work shifts (6+ hours), and I never felt that they were weighing my head down. Meanwhile, the Ambient sound mode is quite effective. With it active, the mics deliver a slightly tweaked version of your surroundings with an emphasis on speech. Overall my first impressions are good, I’m looking forward to getting them connected and finding out how they sound. For the sound quality part of the review, I’m going to be listening to an album by an American artist called Caskey. Single Use PlasticFor this review, the “Music” and “Classic” settings were used with the noise cancellation switched off.“Classic” was more neutral in presentation whereas “Dynamic” mode changed the sound to a more “V” shaped profile. Since LDAC is part of the high-res audio magic that’s happening here, the Edifiers are going to be of limited use for iPhone owners looking for high-quality sound. So, what’s the issue here? Well, I would have liked to have seen the Edifiers support AAC, which is a slightly better compression format over the others supported by the iPhone. Price and competition As usual, I’ll start off with my first impressions and then move onto a few different areas before writing my summary and final verdict. With that said, let’s get into the review.

To get the best out of the headphones you’ll want to make use of their LDAC support. Hi-hats in the chorus of “With a Little Help from My Friends’ by The Beatles had a more colourful, natural timbre when compared with streaming over SBC, and trebles really sparkled over the high-resolution codec. Thom Yorke’s falsetto lost some raspiness when listening to busier sections of Radiohead’s “Bodysnatchers” over SBC, but switching to LDAC improved clarity significantly. There are also three audio presets to select depending how you use the headphones; choose from music, game and theatre modes to ensure you get the audio delivery that's best for you. Interestingly you can fiddle and adapt even these three modes to best suit you, for example noise cancelling can be removed.The right earcup also houses a USB-C port for the included USB-C-to-USB-A charging cable, while the left earcup has a 3.5mm connection that enables passive wired listening. Bluetooth is version 5.3 and supports SBC and LDAC codecs with Hi-Res Wireless certification. Google Fast Pair is also supported for Android users. It would have been useful to have support for apt-x or other high quality codecs. The headphones connected successfully with my Huawei smartphone but strangely, I was unable to pair with any of my other devices such as DAPs or dongle. Having said that, I’ll still cover the Edifier WH950NB’s build quality as I would any other tech product, fairly. The fabric material feels soft yet hard wearing and the colour doesn’t look as boring in real life as it does in pictures. Again, not a complaint but a compliment. The overall profile was U shaped and largely neutral in character with a gentle recession in the midrange and a smooth, relaxed presentation. Removing the outer sleeve, you’re presented with the inner box which again, is nice and sturdy. Opening up that box you’ll find a beautiful textile carry case which I hadn’t expected. Most carry cases I’ve seen by Edifier have been faux leather, so it’s different, in a good way. My phone is my primary media device, but I listen to music on my computer while I work. So, I have the headphones connected to both of these devices. If I want to listen to anything on any of these devices, I simply need to play the media on that device. If I want to switch devices, I just need to pause what’s playing on Device #1 and press play on Device #2. The audio will switch over in a matter of seconds.
