For me, this book had two parts: the first being catching up with Ffion, and seeing her work with her former friend/lover, Leo, on another investigation. Ffion hasn’t managed to connect to Leo that she had a one night stand with in the previous installment. My latest book is A GAME OF LIES, the instant Sunday Times bestseller, and the second in my crime series featuring Welsh detective Ffion Morgan, who we first meet in THE LAST PARTY. A Game of Lies by Clare Mackintosh is the second book in the brilliant DC Ffion Morgan and DS Leo Brady series.

Het leugenspel is het tweede deel in de reeks rond rechercheur Ffion Morgan en is de opvolger van Het laatste feest. I can see that it will appeal to a lot of readers and the setting, that of the shooting of Exposure, a reality show, definitely adds to the positive points of the book. The contestants all assumed that this would be a survival for the fittest type of show- but the producers spin this round where they have to complete challenges and tasks in a game of lies. I loved everything about this book - a brilliant, high-concept thriller with plot twists that made me gasp, and wonderful characters that had me laughing out loud and wincing in horror. It's actually the whole reason I started the series – I was approved for this one on NetGalley and immediately requested the first installment from the library so that I wouldn't miss out on any of the backstory. If another player can guess the truth, they won't only be eliminated but they will be exposed live on air. The first show contains a surprise for viewers and an even bigger one for the contestants as this is a game of lies like no other.

The Last Party (book one) was one of my favorite reads of 2022 so to say I had high expectations for this new release would be an understatement. Ffion is a great character – conscientious in her pursuit of a murderer, although far from rigorous in her relationship with formal protocol. A Game of Lies has everything; a clever plot , a glorious setting , engaging characters and buckets of tension . Al snel na deze bekendmaking verdwijnt één van de deelnemers spoorloos van het terrein en wordt rechercheur Ffion Morgan belast met het onderzoek. Instead of a survival show, they have inadvertently signed up for a exposure show, where you have to win to not having your secrets exposed.Having read and thoroughly enjoyed The Last Party earlier in the year, I'm so glad I got a chance to read this and what a book it was! MacKintosh's writing style remains as engaging as ever, skilfully painting a vivid tapestry of emotions and events that keep you hooked from start to finish. You really do feel the Welshness via the language, the local characters and their roots and the area is beautifully described so it exudes atmosphere.

But Ffion finds herself involved in the competition because her sister/daughter Seren is dating a young production assistant, Caleb. A Game of Lies is the second of Clare Mackintosh's series featuring North Wales police detective DC Ffion Morgan. I found this book engrossing however as I am not a fan of reality shows, I found the manipulative and devious behaviour of the show’s producer distasteful. If it's general chit chat you're after, please do follow me on Instagram, where I go to avoid writing, and to share snippets of my life in rural Wales, complete with teenagers, dogs and Pete the goat. The producer, Miles Young, the founder of Young Production, chose the contestants without giving them information about the secret revelation part and made them sign a contract that restricts them from leaving the competition. I especially liked Georgina, whose cold, unemotional demeanour conceals a dreadful secret but also a great sense of humour. I got into Claire Mackintosh after reading 'After the End', and 'I Let You Go' but this doesn't nearly compare (in a bad way).
